What After BDS? 17 Career Opportunities After BDS
Now This Topic is One of My Favourites...
Everybody these days are confused for career options after bds.
This is true that many people take bds, because they couldn't get into MBBS, similar is my story.
Not everyone wants to practice dentistry. So if you are reading this post, you must be someone who doesn't want to do MDS, or even if you want to do clinical dentistry, you might want to go abroad.
Let's face it, plain BDS in India has no value..if you dont have your own clinic setup.
So here's some of the career options after bds, that you probably didnt knew about.
1) MSc Options After BDS.
If you dont want to do MDS, you can opt for MSc options after bds. MSc is available in foreign countries in both clinical and non clinical subjects. If you want to pursue MSc in clinical subjects, it is virtually same as MDS, but you can opt for non clinical subjects like public health...(It's not public health dentistry)
2) Work in Army as a bds graduate.
Do you know you can earn more than 60,000/- monthly if you work as a bds graduate in army. This is a wonderful career option, imagine being paid only Rs.2000 to Rs. 10,000/- after bds.
If you are wondering how do i get into army..?
You have to crack NEET MDS, and apply into army. You'll get a interview call.
Once you are done with the interview, they'll conduct a thorough full body exam.
If you pass all this, you can work in army as a bds graduate.
Some more info..You can take SSC (Short Service Comission) in army, which is for 5 years.
In the 2nd year of SSC, you can apply for permanent commission which is for 20 years. That means you have to serve the army for 20 years before you can leave.
If you want to do MDS from army college, you have to take up permanent commission as a bds, after 8 years of service in the army, again give NEET MDS.. Once you crack NEET MDS, you'll directly be offered a MDS seat.
Every year your salary will increase if you can get into army as a bds graduate.
Ultimate criteria for many people is earning, which this job will help you achieve.
3) Learn Dentistry From USA & Canada
Remember your degree is not valid in the USA. You have to crack NBDE Part- I and NBDE Part -II.
Once you qualify NBDE you can apply to Universities in USA. But it is not that easy to get selected, since they check your CV, apart from bds do you have any US experience?
Getting into USA is very difficult..
But once you go there, you can either study DDS or Opt for Masters.
In Canada you have to clear NDEB..
Canada is relatively easier to enter compared to USA.

Now Talking About Salary
If you are a plain BDS and want to do job somewhere, expect a pay anywhere from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 10,000
If you setup your own clinic, then expect your earnings ranging from Rs. 50,000 to a few lakhs monthly, depending upon the patient flow, your charges, clinic locality etc.
